Geraldine Strickland Thornton

Geraldine Strickland Thornton, 92, of Blackshear, passed away early Monday morning, May 8, 2023, at her residence.

Born in Patterson March 20, 1931, she lived in Hollywood, FL for 45 years before returning to Pierce County in 2002.  She worked for Upjohn Health Agency while living in Florida and had been a homemaker for the past several years.  She liked to bowl, crochet, do arts and crafts and fish.  She was a member of the Red Hat Society and was a member/volunteer at the Pierce County Senior Citizens Center. She was a member of Laura Chapel Baptist Church and will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother.

She was the daughter of the late Lonnie William and Mildred M. Cantrell Strickland.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Thornton; her son-in-law, Ed Spurlock and both of her brothers, Harold Strickland and Leon Strickland.

Survivors include her daughter, Anita Spurlock, Blackshear; her son and daughter-in-law, Tommy Ray and Terry Thornton, New Smyrna Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Anesha (Collin) Lee, Dwayne Fulton (Joy Edgy) and Chad Thornton; seven great-grandchildren, Justin Lee, Christian Lee, Matt (Obey Jean) Mclaughin, Carson Fulton, Kassidy Thornton, Tye Thornton and Kensley Thornton; three great-great-grandchildren, Annabelle Lee, Rylee Lee and Dean Mclaughlin; a special friend, Pat Saunders, Blackshear; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday, May 12, at the funeral home.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 12, from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.

Interment will be in the Laura Chapel Cemetery.

Memorialization is by cremation.
