Benjamin James ‘B.J.’ Harrelson Jr.

Benjamin James “B. J.” Harrelson Jr., 78, of Alma, entered his heavenly home Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Twin Oaks Nursing Home in Alma, after a short illness.

He was born September 15, 1944 in Jesup but had lived most of his life in Bacon County.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Lucy Rodriquez Harrelson, and his parents, Benjamin James Harrelson Sr. and Ruby Gordon Griffis Purvis.

He was an active and faithful member of Southside Church of God since 1971. He was retired from Suburban Propane. He loved spending time with his family and church family. He also served his community for many years with his heating and air conditioning business.

Survivors include four children, Andy Harrelson (Angela), Aiken, SC., Randy Harrelson, Alma, Sandy Walsh (Emmett), Bay St. Louis, MS. and Angie Dyal Sears (Bobby Hue), Alma; one sister, Brenda Gray (J .R.), Jesup; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at Southside Church of God in Alma.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 21,  from Southside Church of God with Pastor Mark Carver and Pastor David Deen officiating.

Interment will follow in Elizabeth Chapel Church Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Tyler Harrelson, Brandon Boland, Justin Harrelson, Dylan Davis, Will Davis, Dawson Dyal, Eli Dyal and Nate Dyal.

Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Harrelson Jr., Robert Boland and Destiny Harrelson.

Crosby Funeral Home of Alma is in charge of arrangements.
