John Duncan Hume
A long-time resident of Saint Simons Island and resident of McRae for the past five years, Hume was born on November 10, 1951 in Niagara Falls, N.Y., to the late Will and Elinor Zobel Hume.
The family relocated when Hume was just a boy. He spent his formative years in Portland, Oreg., before relocating again to Saint Simons when he was 18.
Hume owned and operated his own construction business for many years, Hume Construction, building many homes on Saint Simons Island and the surrounding areas.
In his spare time, Hume loved bowling. He bowled regularly in a league on Monday nights in Brunswick. Hume was also a lover of cats, an avid reader and had been certified in scuba diving.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Walker of McRae; son, Matthew Duncan Hume of Brownsville, Texas; daughter, Amanda Joan Hume of Hortense; grandchildren, Ty Hume of Hortense, Tala Gonzales of Texas and Sadie Dabila of Hortense; and two sisters, JoAnn Shakon and Jackie Hilyard, both of Oregon.
Services will be private. Howard and Jones Funeral Home of Jesup is in charge of arrangements.
