Devon Foy Kimbrell Sr.

Devon Foy Kimbrell Sr., 80, of Blackshear, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2025, at his residence.

Born in Patterson, August 10, 1944, he lived in Ware and Pierce counties most of his life. He was a 1962 graduate of Patterson High School. , F„ ollowing Kimbrell Sr.

his graduation, he went right to work as a blacksmith with CSX Transportation and worked for them until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting in his younger days but his true passion was fishing. He also looked forward to planting a garden every year and enjoyed riding around the neighborhood on his golf cart. He was a member of Laura Chapel Baptist Church.

He was a son of the late Charlie Foy and Mildred Haire Kimbrell.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen Hetrick Kimbrell, Rochester, PA; his daughter and son-in-law, Holly Kimbrell and Thomas Powell, Watkinsville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Devon F. “D.F.” Kimbrell Jr., Patterson and Jason and Dawn Kimbrell, Waycross; his former wife and caregiver, Sally Sloan Dixon, Blackshear; a sister, Joann Woodcock, Darien; a brother, Jackie (Pat) Kimbrell, Way cross; two grandchildren, Jason C. “J.C.” (Ericka) Kimbrell and Hunter (Kylie) Kimbrell; a great-grandson, Kaiden, due to make his arrival in October and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 23, from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tim Rowell and the Rev. Steve Dees officiating.

Interment followed in the Laura Chapel Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were J. C. Kimbrell, Hunter Kimbrell, Roy Sloan, Bob Kimbrell, Christopher Hamm, Zhian Hamm and Doug Woodcock.

Former CSX Blacksmith Shop employees served as honorary pallbearers.
