WAYCROSS — Michael Daniel Byrd, Jr., 20, of Waycross died early Tuesday morning, May 20, 2025, in Jacksonville, Fla., from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident Monday night, May 19, in Brantley County along with his best friend, Donovan Spears.

Byrd was born March 28, 2005, in Waycross to Michael Daniel Byrd, Sr., and Amanda Gail Mosely Byrd. He graduated from Ware County High School in 2024.

Byrd was a member of the Golden Gator Marching Band where he played the saxophone. He had a passion for music and loved his time in the marching band. Byrd enjoyed every moment he was able to spend with his friends and play alongside them on Friday nights.

A young man with an adventurous spirit, Byrd lived life to the fullest. His sense of humor put smiles on the faces of his family, friends and even strangers. He loved to travel and had a goal set to settle in Jacksonville at some point in life.

Byrd was preceded in death by his aunt, Becky Taylor, who was very special to him.

He is survived by his parents, Michael “Danny” Byrd, Sr., and Amanda Mosely Byrd of Waycross; two sisters, Natalie Byrd and Danielle Byrd of Waycross; one nephew, Jahvoni Newsome of Waycross; one niece, Kimani Newsome of Waycross; his paternal grandparents, James and Darlene Byrd of Waycross; his maternal grandmother, Lisa Mosely of Waycross; and numerous other relatives.

A memorial service celebrating Byrd’s life was held Friday in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel.
