Daniel Gordon ‘DG’ Sweat

Daniel Gordon “DG’ Sweat, 84, passed away Friay, April 25, 2025 at Archbold Living-Cairo. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 59 years.

He was born November 21, 1940, in Blackshear to the late Alfred Colquitt Sweat and Johnnie Mae Smith Sweat. He served his country in the Army

National Guard. He married Jeanne Brown Sweat July 9, 1965. He was known affectionately as “DG”, “Danny” or “Dan-Dan” by his family and friends. He retired from management in the Southern Bell Telephone Company. He was a member of Covenant Presbyter ian Church in Albany.

He was always happiest when hunting or fishing with his family. Countless memories were made on a boat on the coast or in the woods stalking a big buck. His talents were many and could fix almost anything if given a minute or two. He enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren in all their various activities. He was blessed with a loving and devoted wife who selflessly cared for him, especially in the last few years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Jerri Ann Carter; and a brother, Al Sweat.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Sweat, Cairo; his daughters, Shanda Pyrz (Drew) and Susan Sweat, both of Cairo and Shelah Burdette, Albany; grandchildren, Koby Pyrz (Katie) and Eli Pyrz, both of Athens, Brantley Burdette and Beau Burdette, both of Albany, Cade Culbreath, Cairo; brother-inlaw, Butch Carter, Blackshear; sister-in-law, Tanda Sweat, Waycross; his best friend of many years, Don O’Steen, Boston and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 28, from the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home in Cairo. The Rev. Kerry Dinkins and the Rev. Freddie Smith officiated.

Interment followed in Greenwood Cemetery, Cairo.

Active pallbearers were Koby Pyrz, Eli Pyrz, Drew Pyrz, Don O’Steen, Steven Sweat, Cade Culbreath, Beau Burdette.

Honorary pallbearers were Phillip Brown and Brian Sweat.
