Julius Allen ‘Buddy’ Lyle
WAYCROSS — Julius Allen “Buddy” Lyle, 75, of Waycross died Sunday, February 3, 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., after a brief illness.
He was born in Dixie Union in Ware County to the late Bryson Estes Lyle and Gladys Gregory Lyle. Lyle grew up in Hortense and moved to several different places before settling back in Waycross in 2001. He worked as a welder for Babcock & Wilcock and also sold insurance, cars, and most recently worked as the office manager for the D.U.I. School on Knight Avenue.
Lyle loved life. He was an avid University of Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves fan, never missing a game. He loved dancing to music from the 196os and was a master of the “jitterbug.” Lyle won a limbo contest on his 50th birthday against much younger competition.
More than anything, Lyle loved his family and any moment he was able to spend with them. He looked forward to his family reunion held at Lake Oconee every summer.
Along with his parents, he also was preceded in death by two sisters, Lorene Melton and Pat Sellers.
Lyle is survived by his wife, LaRee Lyle of Waycross; six children, Barry Lyle of Waycross, Adam Lyle of Los Angeles, Calif., Allen Altman and his wife, Tanya, of Waycross, Alicia Harkleroad and her husband, Thad, of Waycross, Brady Altman and his wife, Heather, of Mcclenny, Fla., and Wendy Kurtz and her husband, Keith, of Springfield, Ga.; nine grandchildren, Will Taylor, Taylor Altman and his wife, Melanie, Jordan Coker and her husband, Gaines, Keegan Kurtz, Bruce Altman, Drew Kurtz and his wife, Andrea, Tristan Kurtz, Cade Altman, and Grayson Kurtz; two great grandchildren, Graham Taylor and Brooks Coker; one brother, Mike Lyle and his wife, Diana, of Vero Beach, Fla.; one sister, Shirley Perkins and her husband, David, of Waycross; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
