WAYCROSS — Mrs. Vernell Jewell Wells, 90, died Friday, February 7, 2025, at Ms. Joe’s Personal Care Home after an extended illness.
She was born July 3, 1934 in Coffee County to the late Jackson Jewell and Daisy Joyner Jewell. Mrs. Wells retired from Head Start as a teacher’s aide, and she was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Roland Wells; and her siblings, Maggie Smith, Francis Barrett, Annie Bell Musgrove, Myrtice Exum, Bonnell Wilson, Lester Jewell, and Paul Jewell.
Survivors include three daughters, Janice Wells Bennett (Hilton) of Waycross, Sharon Wells Booth of Waycross, and Kimberly Wells Hammond (Steve) of Juliette, Ga.; son, Charles Jackson “Chuck” Wells (Regina) of Waycross; 10 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Monday, February 10 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Burial followed in Kettle Creek Cemetery.
