WAYCROSS — Mr. Charles Lynn Thornton, 65, of Waycross, died Tuesday night, February 3, 2026, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House after an extended illness.
He was born in Waycross to the late Archie Bud Thornton and Faye Varnadore Thornton. Thornton retired from GATX, where he worked as a welder. He previously owned and operated

Thornton’s Radiator Shop. He was a kind soul, who would help anyone he could and brighten the day of anyone he encountered.
Thornton was a passionate and accomplished musician. A skilled guitarist, he played in numerous local bands and enjoyed every moment spent writing and making music.
Along with his parents, he also was preceded in death by three siblings, Susie Thornton, Richard Thornton, and Linda Thornton.
He is survived by his wife, Wendy Thornton of Waycross; three children, Dusty Thornton (April) of Blackshear, Megan Hare (Stephen) of Waycross, and Shayne Thornton of Athens; three grandchildren, Conner Thrift, Grant Thrift, and Amy Hare; one brother, Buddy Thornton (Sandra) of Blackshear; his sister-in-law, Lynne Marsh of Waycross; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.
