Eight Ware County High School athletes — seven football players and a baseball player — signed letters of intent with colleges during a ceremony in the school’s Performing Arts Center Wednesday, February 3. Two of the Gators’ football players — offensive linemen Kyler Matthews and Cason Hall — will continue their careers together at Mars Hill (N.C.) University. Others signing were running backs Tayshaun Franklin (Wofford) and Jamir Boyd (LaGrange), wide receiver Ja’Mario Rice (Valdosta State), linebacker Avante Ballentine (Tusculum University) and offensive lineman Demarius Dennis (Point University). Slade Sweat, a pitcher/infielder, signed with the University of North Georgia.
