REIDSVILLE — Tattnall County and Pierce County closed out the 2025-26 regular season with the host school completing a Region 3-AA season sweep here Saturday.
The Lady Warriors (14-8 overall, 7-1 region) rolled to a 54-23 victory over the ice-cold Lady Bears (6-16, 2-6) in the February 7 matchup. Tattnall County, which closed the season winning seven of its last eight games, prevailed 5636 in Bearville January 17.
The Warriors (7-18, 5-3) ended a three-game losing streak while handing the Bears (6-16, 2-6) a fourth consecutive loss with a 5852 victory in the nightcap. Tattnall County posted a 56-36 road win in the first meeting.
Up next for Pierce County is the region tournament at Crisp County with all hopes for a state tournament berth at stake.
PCHS will host Cook in play-in games Monday, February 16. The winners advance to the Wednesday, February 18 semifinals of the region tournament. The championship and consolation games will be contested Friday, February 20.
Tattnall County ................54 Lady Bears .......................23 The host Lady Warriors outscored PCHS in every quarter in posting a 31-point victory.
Tattnall County scored more points from beyond the arc (21; seven treys) than the cold-shooting Lady Bears managed from the floor (20).
The Lady Warriors jumped ahead 18-8 by the end of the first period. They used a 10-7 scoring advantage in the second quarter to extend the margin to 28-15 at intermission.
Tattnall County used a second 10-point scoring advantage in the third stanza outpointing the Lady Bears 13-3 for a commanding 4118 advantage. The Lady Warriors closed with a 13-5 scoring advantage in the final period.
PCHS’s Saharah Minott scored eight of her career-high and gamehigh tying 11 points in the opening period. Claire Murray (trey) bagged seven points. Ansley Hutcheson (trey) and Layla Chandel added three points and two points respectively.
Tattnall County also had one player in double figures with Jailah Chapman netting a game-high tying 11 points. Three Lady Warriors tied with nine points each.
Tattnall County ................58 Bears................................52 Pierce County’s five-point advantage from the floor was wiped out by the Warriors’ 11-point advantage at the free throw line in the nightcap.
The Bears totaled 47 points from the floor aided by seven treys while Tattnall County scored 42 points with 24 coming on eight treys. PCHS finished 5-of-8 at the charity stripe while the Warriors converted 16-of-18 free throw attempts.
Pierce County’s Nigel Brown (career-high six treys) garnered game-high scoring honors netting 23 points with 16 coming in the first half.
The Bears grabbed an 18-17 lead at the end of the first period with Brown scoring 12 on four threes. Tattnall County used a 1711 scoring advantage in the second quarter to take a 34-29 lead at the break.
The Warriors extended the margin to double digits at the end of the third period outscoring PCHS 14-9 for a 48-38 working margin. The Bears outscored Tattnall County 14-10 over the final eight minutes getting as close as two points late.
Jamil Strickland (trey) and Chezz Armstrong followed Brown’s lead bagging seven points each. DeMontre Clark tallied six points.
Amir McKenzie and D.J. Moody contributed four points and three points respectively. Shavez Warren chipped in two points.
Tattnall County was led by the 16 points of B.J. Sanders (three treys). Jayden Butler followed with 12 points with Nathan Houser adding 10 points.
