Gators open first week of season with three games on the road
Ware County fans, braving a wintery cold front, got their first look at the Gators as they scrimmaged Class 5A Effingham County Thursday night.
The visiting Rebels notched a 6-4 decision in the seven-inning February 5 matchup.
The Gators opened the 2026 campaign Tuesday, February 10 in Valdosta against Lowndes to start a three-game road trip. Ware County travels Friday, February 14 to play South Eff-ingham in Guyton at 6 p.m. The first week of the season wraps Saturday, February 15 with a game against Etowah at Richmond Hill with a 1:30 p.m. start.
The home opener is Monday, February 16 with Lowndes visiting at 5:30 p.m. Ware County travels Friday, February 20 to Brunswick to face Whitewater in the Battle at the Beach at 4 p.m. The Gators face Cartersville Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Glynn Academy.
Ware County used the scrimmage with Effingham County to get a look at its pitching corps. Seven Gators toed the rubber.
The list of hurlers included Tanner Larisey, Keaton Holloway, Eli Watkins, Seth Suess, Lucas Howard, Trace Crosby and Ryder Kinnon.
Senior Walker Hudson and junior Eli Watkins recorded extra base hits.
