HORTENSE — Vera Mae Moody Harrell, 88 of Hortense, passed away Friday morning, January 30, 2026, after an extended

illness.

Mrs. Harrell was born in Brantley County to the late Clarence James and Fronie Mae Dowling Moody. She is also preceded in death by her husb and, Downing Monroe Harrell; one grandson, Adam Rannow; Harrell

and one sister, Mary Waters.

Mrs. Harrell was a homemaker and a member of Hortense Wesleyan Church. She always enjoyed gardening and shopping.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Edward McGinnis of Jacksonville, Fla., a son and daughterin- law, Michael and Kelly Harrell of Orange City, Fla.; two grandchildren, Angel Schera and A.J. Rannow; two greatgrandchildren, Jacobe Schera and Holden Rannow; two sisters, Geraldine Brance of Hortense and Lavonne Sellers (David) of Hortense; two brothers, Jerry Moody (Ruby) of Hortense,and Terry Moody (Debbie) of Hortense; special niece and nephew caregivers, Walter Manning and Diane Branch of Hortense; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A funeral service was held Tuesday morning, February 3, 2026, at Frye Funeral Home.

Burial followed in Satilla Cemetery in Hortense.

Arrangements were with Frye Funeral Home.
