Brantley County sweeps twinbill against Berrien

NASHVILLE — Brantley County recorded the season sweep here Friday taking the Region 1-A twinbill from Berrien.

The MaxPreps 16thranked Lady Herons (16-5 overall, 7-4 region) followed up Tuesday’s 77point massacre of Jeff Davis with a 46-point decision over the Lady Rebels (4-18, 0-11), losers of 13 in a row by an average margin of 23 points, winning 64-18 January 30. BCHS won the January 13 home matchup 5615.

The Herons (9-12, 5-6) ended a two-game skid beating the Rebels (7-15, 2-8), winners of two straight after losing 10 consecutive games, 71-69 in overtime. Brantley County notched a 44-31 victory in the first meeting.

BCHS held an 8-5 lead after one period. Brantley County outscored the Lady Rebels 9-7 in the second period to take 17-12 halftime lead following. cold-shooting first half.

The Lady Herons broke the game open in the third quarter using a 26-3 run to open up a 43-15 advantage. The scoring jaunt continued over the final eight minutes with BCHS finishing the final eight minutes outpointing the Lady Rebels 21-3.

Tamiyah Coley (four rebounds, three steals, assist) and Chloe Johns (two steals, rebound) tied for game-high scoring laurels with 13 points apiece leading the 12-player scoring attack. Abbie Lee (teamhigh tying eight rebounds, team-high tying four steals, three assists) contributed nine points.

Grace Carver (teamhigh tying eight rebounds, assist, steal) and Edie Lowther (three rebounds, three steals, two assists) bagged six points apiece. Anniston Bowers (team-high tying five assists, four rebounds, three steals) and Sarah Grace Tompkins (two rebounds, steal) netted four and three points respectively.

Julia Miller, Mia Kate Bates, Julie Carter (three steals, two assists, rebound), Brodie Allen (rebound, assist, steal) and Kirsten Smith (six rebounds team-high tying five assists and team-high tying four steals) each contributed two points.

Herons ...................71 Berrien............69, OT Tristan Dyess and Cole Courson combined for Brantley County’s 12 overtime points helping the Herons escape with a twopoint win.

Dyess hit a trey, one of his two and BCHS’s season- high 11 in the game, and drained four free throws for seven of his 11 points and one of four double-figure scorers. He recorded a double-double with a team-high tying 10 rebounds while also dishing off for a team-leading seven assists Courson (five rebounds, two assist) netted five points in the extra session to finish with 15 points. Jayden Bryon (team-leading four treys; team-high tying 10 rebounds, teamhigh two steals, assist) also recorded a doubledouble scoring 14 of his season-best 20 points in the first half. Nathan Howell (two treys; two rebounds, assist, steal) netted all 10 of his points in the first half.

BCHS bolted out to a 20-11 lead by the end of the first period. The Herons clipped Berrien 18-17 in the second stanza to take a 38-28 halftime lead.

The Rebels cut the deficit to two points entering the final quarter after outscoring Brantley County 18-10 to get to within 48-46. Berrien followed with a 13-11 scoring advantage in the fourth period to force overtime tied at 59.

Hayze Evans (five assists, steal) drilled three baskets from long distance finishing with nine points. Holton DePratter (four rebounds) chipped in four points. Jayden Simmons (rebound) netted two points.

Berrien had three players reach double figures with the team connecting on eight three-pointers. Amri Camen (four treys) bagged 17 of his gamehigh 22 points in regulation. Tae Lyons and Champ Turner (14 in middle two periods) each scored 16.
