CANEY BAY — Brantley County and Jeff Davis split a Region 1-A doubleheader here Tuesday.
The Lady Herons (15-5 overall, 6-4 region), who fell out of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Top 10 poll and hold a No. 16 ranking by MaxPreps, emphatically ended a mini two-game slide routing the overmatched Lady Yellow Jackets (5-16, 2-7) 81-4 in the opener for a season sweep. BCHS notched a 45-34 decision in Hazelhurst January 10.
The point total is a season- best and the most points scored over the past 14 seasons dating back to 2013. The margin of victory eclipsed a 60-point win (75-15) over Irwin County January 5, 2019, which the 75 points were the most scored since 2013.
Brantley County has recorded three 50-plus point victories (55 vs. Charlton County - 71-16, January 31, 2017; 52 at Berrien - 73-21, January 14, 2025; 51 vs. Toombs County - 65-14, January 24, 2023).
The four points by Jeff Davis marked the fewest points surrendered by the Lady Herons since a 51-9 victory over Toombs County December 15, 2023.
The Yellow Jackets (156, 7-2), winners of three straight and 7-of-10, followed with a 46-30 victory in the nightcap to complete the season sweep of the Herons (8-12, 4-6), who lost their second straight game after winning three of four. Jeff Davis posted a 65-41 win in the first meeting.

Brantley County had three long runs totaling all 81 points in beating the overmatched Lady Yellow Jackets.

BCHS scored the first 19 points of the game en route to a 30-2 first quarter lead. A 24-0 run spanning the first and second periods pushed the margin to 432 before the teams exchanged baskets before the half ended with the Lady Herons in front 45-4 at the break.
Jeff Davis did not score a point over the final two periods as Brantley County closed with a 38-0 finish. The Lady Herons posted a 22-0 run in the third quarter extending the lead to 67-4. They outpointed Jeff Davis 14-0 during the “mercy rule” final six minutes.
Tamiyah Coley (four rebounds, four steals, assist) scored a season-high 23 points to lead 10 Lady Herons in the scoring column. Abbie Lee (team-high nine rebounds, team-high six steals, three assists) was next with 19 points.
Julie Carter (three rebounds, three assists, three steals) and Chloe Johns (two rebounds, two steals, assist) were next with nine points and eight points respectively. Grace Carver chipped in six points.
Anniston Bowers (team-high four assists, two rebounds) and Kirsten Smith (four rebounds, assist, steal) bagged four points apiece.
Julia Miller (assist) and Brodie Allen (three rebounds, assist, steal) contributed three points each. Rachel Kennedy bagged two points.
The Lady Yellow Jackets’ Bree Coney scored all four points.

The Yellow Jackets doubled up Brantley County 8-4 in the first quarter. The visitors used a 14-5 scoring advantage in the second stanza to extend the margin to 22-9.
Jeff Davis would pad its lead in each of the final two periods. A 12-11 scoring advantage in the third stanza pushed the margin to 34-20. The Yellow Jackets outscored BCHS 12-10 in the final eight minutes.
Trinity Dyess (trey) led eight Herons in the scoring column with eight points. Holton DePratter and Jayden Byron bagged six points and five points respectively.
Nathan Howard (trey) netted three points. Jayden Simmons, Cole Courson, Hayze Evans and Tallon Collin each contributed two points.
Mark Durden paced Jeff Davis with 13 points. Kolby Jarrell netted 11 points.
