The Waycross-Ware County Development Authority has received a grant from the Rural Site Development Initiative (RSDI) within the OneGeorgia Authority, Gov. Brian P. Kemp announced Monday.
The local organization has been awarded $161,500 to certify the 391-acre Waycross and Ware County Airport Industrial Park. The total costs on the project are $188,900.
“We appreciate the opportunities provided by Gov. Kemp and our elected officials to help bring valuable resources to rural Georgia,” WWDA President and Chief Executive Officer Jason Rubenbauer said Monday. “This scholarship will help the WWDA finalize the steps needed for GRAD (Georgia Ready for Accelerated Development) Certification which is an extremely important part of showing we’re ready and open for business.
“When businesses and industries look for opportunities to expand regionally, nationally, or globally, they’re looking for speed to market which means we must have sites that are ready for immediate construction. This opportunity allows us to become one step closer to achieving the high level of readiness on a larger scale than ever before.”
WWDA was one of four area authorities to receive awards.
The Brantley County Development Authority was given $45,000 to certify the 103-acre Satilla Industrial Park.
The Camden County Joint Development Authority in coastal Georgia was awarded $2 million for site readiness improvements, including the construction of an entry road, at the Coastal Georgia Commerce Park.
The Toombs County Development Authority was awarded $2 million for site readiness improvements at the 599-acre, GRAD-certified One Toombs Industrial Park.
“In Georgia, we’re committed to bringing good-paying jobs to every part of the state,” Kemp said in announcing the grants. “The Rural Site Development Initiative is a great tool in helping us bring opportunity to every zip code, and I’m grateful for the partnership of the General Assembly and the leadership of the state agencies involved, without whom this generational impact for rural communities would not be possible.”
