OHC book festival has vendor spots The Okefenokee Heritage Center’s “We Love Literacy” Book Festival still has a few vendor spots available.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, February 7, at OHC, 1460 N. Augusta Ave. There is no vendor fee.

Cancer Walk plans discussed Feb. 9 A planning meeting for the Southeast Cancer Walk will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, February 9.

The Southeast Cancer Unit, Inc. will host the meeting at the Blackshear Family Practice Waiting Room.

Teams are now organizing for this year’s Cancer Walk. Planning for the event will be discussed. Those interested in having a team or volunteering for the cancer walk are asked to attend.

The Cancer Walk will be Friday, April 24 at the Tiger Field Walking Track behind the Pierce County Library and the Pierce County Board of Education.

Rec. Dept. holds Family Game Day The Ware County Recreation Department holds its annual Family Game Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, February 16 at the Trembling Earth Complex, 2119 Cecil Brown Drive.

Satilla Riverkeeper cleanup set Feb. 21 The Satilla Riverkeeper will hold a river cleanup from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 21, at various locations along the Satilla River.

Satilla Riverkeeper sets benefit gala The Satilla Riverkeeper will hold a Spring Gala at 5 p.m., Saturday, March 28, at the Blueberry Hill Event Venue, 385 Lynn Holly Lane, Hoboken.

The evening will include dinner, music, an open bar, and both a live auction and a silent auction. Tickets are $150 per person.

All proceeds will support the Satilla Riverkeeper’s mission to protect the Satilla River.

Free tax prep offered Saturdays Waycross is offering the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, providing free basic tax return preparation to eligible residents beginning Saturday, January 31.

The program, which is in its 24th year, serves individuals and families who generally earn $67,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and taxpayers with limited English proficiency.

Services are provided by IRS-certified volunteers, ensuring accurate returns, required quality reviews, and assistance in claiming valuable credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Care Tax Credit.

The Waycross VITA site is at the Ware County Board of Elections and Registration Office, 408 Tebeau Street. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday through the tax season.

Data centers focus of meeting Feb. 16 The Satilla Riverkeeper will host a Town Hall meeting at 6 p.m., Monday, February 16 at the C.C. McCray City Auditorium on data centers.

The forum will discuss the pros and cons of allowing development of the centers in a community, especially along the Satilla River. Experts will be on hand to answer questions.
