Louise Frier Gerbing

BICKLEY — Louise Frier Gerbing passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at her home in Bickley.

Mrs. Gerbing was born in her family home in Bickley, June 25, 1928, and grew up on the family farm. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George C. Gerbing, Sr.; her parents W.A. (Willie) and Corinne S. (Rene) Frier; and two of her three sisters, Betty Frier Simpson and Lynda Frier Henry.

She leaves behind her three children, George C. Gerbing, Jr. (Chuck), Myra G. Royall, and David N. Gerbing; two grandchildren, Nathan B. Gerbing, and Rachel G. Rodriguez (Zeke); great grandson Waylon Rodriguez; as well as a sister, Ann Frier Treadway. She will be missed by many nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.

Mrs. Gerbing attended Bickley School and graduated from Wacona High School. She graduated with an AA from Andrew College, a Bachelor of Education from the University of Georgia and a Master of Education from Valdosta State University. She remained forever a

loyal Bulldogs fan and member of the UGA Alumni Society. She was an active member of the Andrew College Alumni Society and class coordinator for her Class of 1947. Mrs. Gerbing was a beloved teacher in the Ware County School System, retiring in 1989 after 30 years of service.

Mrs. Gerbing was a life-long member of the Bickley Methodist Church where she sang in the choir, taught the Adult Sunday School Class, and was the Secretary of the United Methodist Women. She was active in the District and South Georgia Conference of the UMC, serving on the District Commission on Missions, the South Georgia Commission on Archives and History, South Georgia Historical Society, and Board of Managers of the Moore Methodist Museum.

Mrs. Gerbing was active in her retirement. She was a member of the Ware County Retired Teachers, American Association of Retired Persons, the Association of University Women, a Professional Women’s Group (WINS) as well as serving on the DFCS Board for Ware County and the Ware County Board of Jury Commissioners.

Mrs. Gerbing will be forever remembered as one of those special people who loved well. She loved to dress up and dance with her beloved husband, George. She loved her family. She wrote that she loved her students then and still loved them now. She was an “encourager.” She was always willing to listen and to give loving advice and wise counsel. She was fun-loving and known for her quirky personality and wit. Mrs. Gerbing was a true original.

A celebration of the Life for Mrs. Gerbing will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 7 at Bickley Church, 8040 Old Nicholls Hwy., Nicholls, with visitation and a meal immediately after in the church social hall.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Bickley Church Scholarship Fund or Hospice Satilla would be appreciated.
