JESUP — Ware County split a Region 1-AAAA twinbill here Tuesday with homestanding Wayne County.
The Lady Gators (8-11 overall, 3-2 region), who had won three of their last four games, fell 44-39 January 27 to the Lady Yellow Jackets (12-8, 2-3), winners in three of their last four games. Ware County posted a 47-26 home victory January 13.
The Gators (19-3, 7-1) won their fourth consecutive game logging a 76-56 victory over the Yellow Jackets (14-8, 4-4), who have dropped four of six outings. The victory gave Ware County, who is 10-1 since the turn of the new year, the season sweep following a 68-33 win in the first meeting.
Wayne County ..........................44 Lady Gators ..............................39 The Lady Yellow Jackets opened up a 10-point halftime lead and had to hang on in turning back Ware County.
Wayne County doubled up the Lady Gators 14-7 over the first eight minutes. A 10-7 scoring advantage in the second stanza pushed the margin to 24-14 at intermission.
Ware County surpassed its first-half point production cutting the margin to three points entering the final period outscoring the Lady Yellow Jackets 15-6 to get to within 30-29. Wayne County was able to hold off the Lady Gators.
Bailey Denton (two treys) scored a seasonbest 16 points to lead Ware County.
Nevaeh Norton, A’Treasure White and Bre Hill each contributed six points. Lydia Munford and Ameria Burse followed with three points and two points respectively.
Wayne County’s Ametrius Everette (two treys) claimed game-high scoring honors finishing with 21 points. Alyssa Robinson added 10 points.
Gators....................76 Wayne Co...............56 Ware County stretched a six-point first quarter to 27 points by the end of the third period in knocking off the Yellow Jackets.
The Gators jolted out to a 21-15 advantage in the opening stanza. They followed with a 21-10 run in the second quarter to increase their margin to 4225 at intermission over Wayne County.
Ware County outscored the Yellow Jackets 18-8 in the third period to open up a commanding 60-33 lead. Wayne County buried three treys in the final stanza en route to knocking seven points off the deficit outscoring the Gators 23-16.
Ware County’s Davion Jones led five players in double figures totaling 19 points. Isaiah White (three treys) bagged 14 points.
Kevin Ramsey netted 12 points while Ja’Londi O’Hara (trey) and Elan Jones chipped in 10 points apiece. Masiyer McKoy contributed nine points with R.J. Munford adding two points.
The Yellow Jackets were led by the game-high 24 points of M.J. Monroe (five treys). Gavin Hilton (two treys) added 12 points with Ralph Doomes finishing with 10 points.
