Senior Night sweep
BEARVILLE — Pierce County completed Region 3-AA sweep of Region 3-AA member Cook here Friday on Senior Night.
Between games three Lady Bears and six Bears were recognized. Alayna Bell, Claire Murray and Sahara Minnott were the Lady Bears honored. Bear members feted were Shavez Warren, Dereck Clark, JiKyese McGauley, Nigel Brown, Chezz Armstrong and Nasir Sealy.
The Lady Bears (5-13, 2-4) copped a 36-30 decision in the opener over the Lady Hornets (2-18, 1-6), losers of six straight, for a season split. PCHS, entered having dropped six of seven, fell 53-48 in the first meeting January 9 in Adel.
The Bears (6-12, 2-4), who had lost eight of their last 10, completed the season sweep in the nightcap of the winless Hornets (0-19, 0-6), losers of 24 straight dating back to last season and 42 of their last 46 games. PCHS rolled 72-24 in the first meeting.
Lady Bears ...........36 Cook.....................30 PCHS used a balanced scoring attack with seven players reaching the scoring column in the win over the Lady Hornets.
Isabella Marx paced the Lady Bears with eight points. Madi McGatha (trey) and Murray contributed seven and six points respectively.
Minnott was next with five points. Layla Chandel bagged four points. Ansley Hutcheson and Bell each netted three points.
The Lady Bears claimed a 9-5 first quarter advantage. Cook sliced the deficit in half by intermission outscoring the home team 8-6 in the second stanza to get to within 15-13.
Pierce County added one point to its margin by the end of the third period outscoring the Hornets 10-9 for a 25-22 advantage. The Lady Bears held off Cook outscorig the visitors 11-8 in the final quarter.
Cook’’s DeKaitlyn Smith (two treys) scored a game-high 13 points.
Bears....................85 Cook.....................42 Pierce County had 12 players score at least one point and four finish in double figures in the rout of the Hornets.
Brown (two treys) scored a game-high 18 points playing the first and third periods. Sealy (four treys) and Armstrong contributed 12 points and 11 points respectively in two quarters of action. D.J. Moody scored 10 points in his one quarter (third).
PCHS bolted out to a 25-7 lead in the opening eight minutes. The Bears used a 22-14 scoring advantage in the second period to open up a comfortable 47-21 halftime lead.
Pierce County continued its torrid scoring pace in the third quarter outscoring the Hornets 26-11 to build a 73-32 lead. PCHS outscored Cook 12-10 in the “mercy rule” final canto.
Pierce County’s starters outscored the Hornets’ starters 49-34 with only one Bear playing three quarters. PCHS had a 36-8 scoring advantage in bench points.
Jamil Strickland topped the Bears’ other eight contributers with eight points. Tymere Monroe, Amir McKenzie and Warren finished with five points each.
Derek Clark and Mc-Gauley netted four points aiece. Miles Pitts nd DeMontre Clark chipped in two points and one point respectively.
Cook was led by Marquiese Miller’s 13 points.
