Current structure is not large enough for city’s new fire truck
Blackshear needs more space for its fire department.
The City of Blackshear is currently seeking bids on a 12 foot rear addition to the Carter Avenue Fire Station. A public notice is included in today’s edition.
Blackshear Fire Chief Bucky Goble explains the addition is needed to house the city’s new fire truck that is expected to be delivered in late April.
“We don’t have room for it at the Nichols Street station and it is too long for the current Carter Avenue station,” Goble said.
Deadline for bids is 3 p.m. Feb. 13. The bids will be publicly opened at city hall at that time.
The project includes construction of a concrete slab foundation, concrete block exterior walls, metal roof to match the existing structure, removal and replacement of a single-occupant restroom, relocation of an air compressor and washer and associated plumbing and electrical work.
