Former school resource officer Christopher Andrews Hackett was sentenced to 20 years in prison last week in Pierce County Superior Court.
Hackett plead guilty to three counts of aggravated assault, battery-family violence and cruelty to children in the third degree. Hackett entered his guilty plea before Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Kight in court last Monday, Jan. 26.
Judge Kight sentenced Hackett to serve 20 years in prison with seven year concurrent. He also got 12 months to serve concurrent with the other counts.
Prosecutors chose to nolle prosequi an additional aggravated assault account and a count of false imprisonment.
Nolle prosequi is a Latin legal term meaning 'to be unwilling to pursue'.
The case was prosecuted by Daphne Totten of the Waycross Judicial Circuit’s District Attorney’s Office.
Defense Attorney Adam Craft of Waycross represented Hackett.
Hackett was arrested Sunday, December 8, 2024 and charged in the case.
According to the incident report at the time, Hackett allegedly assaulted a family member with his hands/fists at his home in Pierce County at 8:43 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024.
The victim had visible injuries, but was not taken for treatment.
The report indicated alcohol/other drugs played a role in the incident.
Hackett fled the home and was later arrested by Waycross Police Department and later returned to Pierce County to the face charges.
