ADEL — Pierce County’s wrestling Bears will send eight grapplers to the Sectional “B’ tournament at East Jackson High School following the Area 3 Traditional tournament here Friday.
PCHS’s Gregory Sallett (120 lbs.), Cooper Davis (150) and Jay’lynn Everette (215) won their respective weight divisions January 30 at Cook High School.
Finishing second were William Shreves (113), Landon Taylor (144) and Grayson Sikes (190). Placing third were Caleb Cason (126), Shevy Sapp (157).
Tristan Crosby (106) and Jackson Courson (285) finished one spot out from earning a trip placing fifth.
The Bears posted a third-place showing compiling 155.5 points. Host Cook High captured the title with 269.5 points. Appling County was runnerup with 180.5 points. Finishing behind PCHS were Sumter County (96) and Crisp County (79).
The Sectional “B’ tournament is scheduled for Saturday, February 7 at East Jackson High School in Commerce. The top four wrestlers in each weight class in Areas 3, 4, 6 and 8 advance to the Sectional tournament.
The Section “A” tournament for Areas 1, 2, 5 and 7 is schedule for Coahulla Creek High School outside Dalton.
Sallet posted two pins in winning his class. The first came at 2:14 with the second at 3:04 in the championship match.
Davis won his weight division opening with a pin (1:02) and notching an 11-8 decision in the title match.
Everett pinned (5:29) his opening opponent and escaped with an 8-5 decision in the championship match.
Shreves went 1-1 recording a 17-1 technical fall win before losing a 5-1 tie-breaker decision in the finals.
Taylor posted a 16-2 major decision before suffering a pin (1:15) in the championship match.
Sikes opened the tournament with a pin (3:23) before losing via pin (1:30) in the finals.
Cason opened with a pin (1:13) in his first match. He lost in the semis with an 18-1 technical fall. Cason recorded a pin (3:52) in the thirdplace match.
Sapp’s lone match ended with a 12-7 loss.
Crosby dropped both his matches losing a 22-15 decision and a 19-3 technical fall.
Courson suffered a pair of pin (57 seconds, 4:20) defeats.
