CANEY BAY — Brantley County notched its second jayvee doubleheader sweep of Pierce County Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Herons rolled to a 4527 victory over the Lady Bears in the first game of the quadruple header. Brantley County notched a 49-45 win December 19 in Bearville.
The Herons needed overtime to turn back the Bears 42-40. BCHS posted a 66-41 decision in the first meeting.
Brantley County................45 Lady Bears ........................27 Brantley County built an 11point halftime lead en route to beating the Lady Bears.
The Lady Herons doubled up PCHS 8-4 in the first period. BCHS outpointed the Lady Bears 13-6 in the second stanza to take a 21-10 lead at intermission.
Brantley County broke the game open in the third period outscoring the Lady Bears 14-4 to take a 35-14 advantage. Pierce County won the fourth quarter scoring honors outpointing the Lady Herons 13-10.
Brodie Allen (trey) paced BCHS with a game-high 16 points. Mia Kate Bates and Sarah Grace Tompkins netted six points apiece. Raleigh Gibson and Leah Parsons each bagged four points.
Julie Miller and Addisyn Grafford chipped in three points apiece. Natalie Hester finished with two points and Chloe Drury canned a free throw.
PCHS was led by the 10 points of Azalea Moley (trey). Aubree Wilkins (trey) and Haley Guess followed with six points and five points respectively.
Jesslyn Moore and Jose’ziah James each scored two points. Patience Smith and Kamil Strickland knocked down a free throw apiece.
Brantley County................42 Bears..........................40, OT The Herons’ Nick McKevor provided the game-winning basket in overtime helping Brantley County to a 6-4 scoring advantage in beating Pierce County.
McKevor scored a team-high 15 points with Ellis Westover (two treys) following with 10 points.
PCHS’s D.J. Moody (two treys) claimed game-high scoring honors with an 18-point afternoon.
The Bears claimed a 12-10 lead at the end of the first period. Brantley County outscored the visitors 8-6 in the second quarter to tie the game 18-all at intermission.
BCHS outpointed Pierce County 10-7 during the third stanza to grab a 28-25 lead. The Bears returned the three-point scoring advantage in the final period outscoring Brantley County 11-8 to tie the game at 36-apiece forcing an extra session.
Blane Smith was next in the Brantley County scoring column with five points. Andrew Stanley and Travon Baker bagged four points each. J.B. Johnson contributed three points with Alex Keen adding a free throw.
Maverick Pitts followed Moody’s lead with seven points. Mason Hutcheson (two treys) and Miles Pitts (trey) added six points and five points respectively. Will Higginson chipped in four points.
