Pierce County drops Region 3 twinbill at Crisp

CORDELE — Homestanding Crisp County knocked off Pierce County twice here Friday in a Region 3-AA doubleheader.

The Lady Bears (3-12 overall, 1-4 region) dropped their fifth consecutive game January 23 and eighth in 10 outings falling 47-25 to the Lady Cougars (4-12, 2-3), who entered on a three-game skid and had suffered losses in eight of their last 10 games.

PCHS won the first matchup, posting a 51-38 home win January 2.

The Cougars (14-3, 4-0) notched a fifth consecutive victory and eighth in 10 games to complete the sweep with a 73-41 decision in the nightcap over the Bears (411, 1-4).

The loss was the third in a row for Pierce County and seventh in eight games. Crisp County won the first matchup 62-53.

The Lady Cougars outscored PCHS in each quarter using a 29-10 second half scoring advantage to pull way for the win.

Crisp County was clinging to a 9-8 lead when the first period expired. The Lady Cougars outscored Pierce County 9-7 in the second stanza to take an 18-15 halftime lead.

The home team blew the game open in the third period outscoring the Lady Bears 15-3 to build a comfortable 33-18 advantage. The Lady Cougars doubled up PCHS 14-7 over the final eight minutes.

Isabella Marx topped the Lady Bears’ scoring charge with eight points. Madi McGatha (trey) and Ansley Hutcherson each netted five points.

Claire Murray bagged four points. Saharah Minott and Alayna Bell chipped in two points and one point respectively.

Crisp County’s Ka’Dashia Glover connected on two of the Lady Cougars’ six treys to finish with a game-high 10 points.

Crisp County matched the Bears’ game score in the first half, scoring 20-plus points in three of the four quarters to win easily.

The Cougars drilled seven treys to PCHS’s two with the Crisp County starters outscoring the Bears’ starters 46-23.

Crisp County raced out to a 21-9 lead by the end of the first eight minutes. The Cougars outscored Pierce County 20-12 in the second period to open up a 41-21 lead.

The Bears won the third quarter scoring battle 12-11 to trail 52-33. Crisp County finished the game off with a 21-8 run in the final stanza.

D.J. Moody’s 12 points off the bench paced PCHS. Nigel Brown (trey) contributed nine points with Chezz Armstrong and Ji’Keyse McGauley (trey) bagging six points and five points respectively.

Shavez Warren netted four points. Jamil Strickland and DeMontrey Clark chipped in two points each. Tymere Monroe added a free throw.

Cayden Lofton led a trio of Crisp County players in double figures finishing with a game-high 18 points. Eddie McGriff (two treys) followed with 12 points. Courtney Oliver (trey) finished with 10 points.
