Brantley County falls twice in region doubleheader against Thomasville

THOMASVILLE — Homestanding Thomasville copped a Region 1-A twinbill sweep here Saturday afternoon over Brantley County.

The Lady Bulldogs (14-3 overall, 5-2 region) followed a 54-36 region win at sixthranked and unbeaten Bacon County Friday night with a 5842 victory over the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s ninthranked Lady Herons (14-5, 54), losers of two straight, January 24.

Thomasville is riding a seven-game winning streak since falling 58-54 in overtime January 9 at Brantley County winning by an average of 22.6 points per game.

BCHS's two-game skid is its second since the calender changed to 2026. The Lady Herons, who fell Tuesday, January 20 to Bacon County in a Top 10 matchup, fell January 2 to visiting Fitzgerald and January 3 at Bacon County.

Thomasville (8-9, 6-1) completed the season sweep of the Herons (8-11, 4-5), winners of two straight and three of their last four, recording a 61-48 victory for a third consecutive victory. The Bulldogs prevailed 70-54 in the first meeting in Caney Bay.

Brantley County enters the next to last full week of the regular season sandwiching a pair of home games around a road trip. BCHS hosted Jeff Davis Tuesday, January 27. After a road trip to Nashville Friday, January 30 to face Berrien, Brantley County will host neighboring Pierce County Saturday, January 31 with varsity action of the quadrupleheader tipping at 6:30 p.m.

BCHS wraps up the regular season hosting Worth County at 5 p.m., Tuesday, February 3. Montgomery County visit Monday, February 9 at 5 p.m.

Thomasville .................58 No. 9 Lady Herons .......42 The Lady Bulldogs overcame a five-point halftime deficit outscoring Brantley County by 22 points over the final 16 minutes for the win.

Thomasville was clinging to a 13-12 lead when the first period ended. The Lady Herons used an 11-5 scoring advantage over the second stanza to take a 2318 lead at intermission.

The Lady Bulldogs nearly matched the first-half point total in outscoring BCHS 17-7 in the third quarter to open up a 35-30 advantage. Thomasville eased away over the final eight minutes outpointing the Lady Herons 2312 for the win.

Abbie Lee put together a double-double outing scoring 13 points, grabbing 14 rebounds and handing out an assist. Chloe Jones (three rebounds, team-high two steals) netted nine points.

Julie Carter (six rebounds, team-leading five assists, steal) and Tamiyah Coley (four rebounds, steal) each scored five points. Edie Lowther (two rebounds, steal) contributed three points.

Anniston Bowers (three rebounds) and Ella Highsmith (four rebounds, assist) chipped two points apiece.

Thomasville.................. 61 Herons ........................48 Cole Courson’s game-high 23 points were not enough to offset a trio of double-figure scorers for Thomasville.

Courson (team-high eight rebounds, team-leading two steals) was the l0ne BCHS player to reach double digits.

The Bulldogs were led by the 14 points of Addum Barnes (two treys). Jordan Mitchell and Monte Colvin (two treys) each scored 13 points.

Thomasville steadily pulled away from a 15-11 first quarter advantage. The Bulldogs widened the margin by intermission outscoring Brantley County 146 in the second period to build a 29-17 lead.

Thomasville expanded the margin during the third period outscoring the Herons 20-14 to open up a 49-31 advantage. BCHS chipped five points off the deficit over the final eight minutes outscoring the Bulldogs 17-12.

Jayden Simmons (four rebounds, steal) followed Courson’s lead with eight points. Tallon Collins (three rebounds, steal) and Holton DePratter (three rebounds) chipped in seven points and six points respectively.

Yaden Byron (five rebounds, two assists) bagged three points. Zary Harris chipped in a free throw.
