WPD investigating bomb threat at MSH

The Waycross Police Department is investigating a bomb threat Sunday evening received at Memorial Satilla Health.

WPD personnel responded to the hospital complex on Tebeau Street at approximately 8:50 p.m., January 25 for a report of a bomb, Assistant Chief Danny Hampton said Monday in a news release.

In addition to WPD, personnel from the Waycross Fire Department, Ware County Emergency Management also were on the scene to work with hospital staff to complete protocol for the incident, the release said. Also present were K-9s from the Georgia Emergency Management Association, Camden County Sheriff’s Office, the Valdosta Police Department and State of Georgia to thoroughly search for any immediate dangers.

The hospital staff did not evacuate the facility during response by law enforcement and other officials, the release said.

Once the initial information was gathered WPD Officers and Investigators began working the case. The scene was cleared about 1:30 a.m. Monday morning, the release said.

No injuries were reported and no further details about the incident were available at presstime Monday evening.

Waycross City Manager Ulysses “Duke” Rayford praised the work of local responders and their public partners Monday.

“From the moment the call was received, Waycross Police, Fire, Emergency Management, and other public safety partners responded quickly and professionally,” Rayford said in a social media post. “Equally critical was the close coordination with hospital leadership and staff, whose cooperation and preparedness ensured patient care, staff safety, and public safety were maintained throughout the incident.

“Out of an abundance of caution, all appropriate safety measures were taken, and at no time was public safety compromised.”

Hampton said if anyone has other information to please contact WPD at (912) 287-2921 or the WPD tip line at (912) 2872924.
