Ware Extension has free income tax prep

Special to the WJH The Ware County/ University of Georgia Extension office will provide free tax preparation through the 2025 tax season.

The service is through the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program at the UGA Extension Office, 3225 Harris Road. Appointments are required to access the service.

Tax preparation volunteers from the community and Coastal Pines Technical College will be working with UGA Family and Consumer Sciences County Agent, Tabitha Kirkendall, to provide tax preparation appointments.

VITA allows taxpayers to have returns prepared and filed for free. Volunteers are trained and certified by the IRS, and must pass annual exams to prepare returns.

All returns go through a quality review process before being submitted to the IRS.

VITA volunteer tax preparers are trained and certified to prepare many types of tax returns, including those claiming the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Care Tax Credit.

To schedule an appointment for tax preparation or for more information on the VITA program or the Ware County/UGA Extension office call (912) 287-2456.
