City man earns Masters at NIU
Waycross resident Tykeevious Myles was among more than 1,200 students to receive a degree from Northern Illinois University during graduation ceremonies last month.
Myles earned a Master of Science degree from the college in DeKalb, Ill. NIU offers more than 170 bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree programs across seven colleges

Rec. Dept.holds Family Game Day The Ware County Recreation Department holds its annual Family Game Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, February 16 at the Trembling Earth Complex, 2119 Cecil Brown Drive.

Satilla Riverkeeper sets benefit gala The Satilla Riverkeeper will hold a Spring Gala at 5 p.m., Saturday, March 28, at the Blueberry Hill Event Venue, 385 Lynn Holly Lane, Hoboken.
The evening will include dinner, music, an open bar, and both a live auction and a silent auction. Tickets are $150 per person.
All proceeds will support the Satilla Riverkeeper’s mission to protect the Satilla River.

Free tax prep starts on Jan. 31 Waycross will once again offer the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, providing free basic tax return preparation to eligible residents beginning Saturday, January 31.
The program, which is in its 24th year, serves individuals and families who generally earn $67,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and taxpayers with limited English proficiency.
Services are provided by IRS-certified volunteers, ensuring accurate returns, required quality reviews, and assistance in claiming valuable credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Care Tax Credit.
The Waycross VITA site is at the Ware County Board of Elections and Registration Office, 408 Tebeau Street.
It will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday through the tax season.
