Ware County completed the season sweep of visiting Region 1-AAAA foe New Hampstead getting a balanced 10-player scoring attack in a 6831 victory.
The Gators (16-3 overall, 5-1 region), who dropped from sixth to 11th in the MaxPreps rankings, bounced back from a loss to Warner Robin in their last outing to win for the eighth time in 10 games. Ware County downed the Phoenix (7-14, 2-4) 81-41 January 6.
The Lady Gators had the night off with New Hampstead not fielding a girls’ team.
No. 11 Gators......68 N. Hampstead ....31 Davion Jones and Ja’Londi O’Hara combined for 24 points leading Ware County past the Phoenix.
Jones (trey) scored a team-high 13 points while O’Hara (trey) netted 11 points. Isaiah White (two treys), Luke Hinely (two treys), Elan Jones and Kevin Ramsey each contributed eight points.
Masiyer McKoy was next with five points, Alex Cooper chipped three points while Eugene Woods and R.J. Munford bagged two points apiece.
Ware County built an 18-10 first quarter lead with half the points coming on three long-range bombs. The Gators blew the game open in the second stanza using a 21-2 run in opening up a 39-12 halftime advantage.
Ware County outscored the Phoenix 14-10 during the third period to take a commanding 53-22 lead. The Gators outpoints New Hampstead 15-9 during the “mercy rule” final period.
The Phoenix also had 10 players score led by the six points of Dorin Mobley.
