Turner, Paschall, Harris honored at MLK, Jr. event

Top citizens Mamie Turner, Tyrone Harris and Angela Eaddy Paschall were among those recognized at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. program Satu rday night.

The program was held at the Evergreen Church near Bristol. Turner was recognized as this year’s grand marshal.

Turner, 91, is known for her community involvement and her gifts with needle and thread and as a caregiver.

Turner said she always wanted to be a nurse and model and while it took some time for those dreams to become a reality, she says she fulfilled both by using her gifts of sewing to design and make clothes and modeling her creations or watching others model her creations. She obtained her CNA license and cared for patients. She and her husband Tommy, raised a large family and ran their own trucking company.

She is also a faithful member of the Family Worship Center in Waycross where she serves in many capacities and has been a 50 + year member of the Gardenia Club. She says she loves Pierce County and plans to stay active in the community.

Angela Eaddy Paschall was named as the educator of the year.

Eaddy is a career educator with over 29 years of experience both locally and even internationally. She began her career with teaching stints in Tallahassee, FL, overseas in Japan and then in Houston. She earned her master’s degree in Houston and taught there as an adjunct professor. She returned to Georgia where she taught in Ware County and served as advisor to the Future Business Leaders of America and sponsored the Quiz Bowl. She is working on her doctorate in education.

She is married to Stacy C. Paschall and is the mother of Ameer L. Staten Jr. She is the daughter of John Eaddy Jr. and Isabella Eaddy.

Tyrone Harris was recognized as the citizen of the year. Harris is the owner and chief executive officer of Tyco Construction and Industrial Services.

Harris was recognized for his extensive community involvement including serving on the industrial development authority and the board of equalization. He also serves as a community coach for the football team and with the recreation department. He is a member of the NAACP, the Academic Booster Club, the 100 Black Men of SE GA and he is active at the Upper Room Ministries in Waycross, where he serves in many capacities. He and his wife, Dr. Anita Harris, have three children, Tyrone Jr. (T.J.), Joshua and Tynisha and six grandchildren.

Harris is the son of the late John Wesley and Clementine Harris and a 1983 graduate of Pierce County High School.
