Pierce splits jayvee twinbill with ACHS

BEARVILLE — Appling County and Pierce County split here Friday in junior varsity action.

The Lady Pirates pitched a first-half shutout in beating the Lady Bears 60-14 in the January 16 opener. The Bears rallied over the final two periods from an 11-point halftime deficit to post a 47-39 victory.

Appling County built a 19-0 lead by the end of the opening period. A 210 blitz in the second stanza extended the margin to 40 points at intermission.

PCHS finally recorded its first points in the third quarter with the Lady Pirates adding five points to their margin with a 105 scoring advantage opening up a 50-5 margin. Appling County clipped the Lady Bears 10-9 in the final period.

Kamil Strickland and Azalea Mobley led Pierce County with four points apiece. Patience Smith, Jose’ziah James and Aubrey Wilkins each netted two points.

The Lady Pirates had 10 players reach the scoring column led by Aleah Jones’ game-high 20 points.

Bears ...................47 Appling Co...........39 PCHS outscored the Pirates 32-13 in the second half overcoming an 11-point halftime deficit for the victory.

Appling County raced out to a 16-5 first quarter advantage. Each team scored 10 points in the second period with the visitors taking a 26-15 lead to the locker room.

The Bears stormed back in the third stanza outscoring Appling County 14-2 to take a 2928 advantage into the final period. PCHS closed the game outscoring the Pirates 18-11 for the win.

Miles Pitts (two treys) scored 13 of his gamehigh 16 points in the second half with D.J. Moody netting 10 of his 15 points over the final two quarters.

Maverick Pitts (trey) bagged eight points. Will Higginson contributed six points with Ryan Griffin chipping in two points.
