Lady Bears history-making season heads to finals

BEARVILLE — Pierce County’s Lady Bears advanced to the “Elite 8” of the Class AA Duals wrestling finals turning back LaFayette Thursday afternoon.

PCHS, the Area 1 champion, knocked off the Lady Ramblers, the Area 7 runner-up, 54-30, in the Division II Girls’ State Duals preliminary tournament for their first-ever state post-season victory.

The youthful Lady Bears (one senior, two juniors, three sophomores, eight freshmen—11 with a year of experience or less) travel to Dahlonega Saturday, January 24 to compete in the Class AA Division II “Elite 8” tournament, the second-ever event, being hosted by defending champion Lumpkin County.

PCHS will be joined by the Lady Indians, who won the Area 6 title and ousted Area 3 runner-up Oglethorpe County 72-12 in the prelims.

Also reaching the finals following the prelims were Area 1 champion Long County, who beat Area 8 runnerup North Oconee; Area 7 champion Ridgeland after knocking off Area 2 runner-up Baldwin; Area 8 champion Jefferson, who ousted Area 1 runner-up Brantley County; 2025 DII runner-up Jordan, the Area 5 champion, after beating Area 4 runner-up Stone Mountain; Area 4 champion Mt. Zion-Jonesboro, who eliminated Area 5 runner-up Hardaway; and Area 3 champion Putnam County, who knocked out Area 6 runner-up Gilmer.
