Volunteer Fire Departments from Hoboken, Hortense and Nahunta fought small brush fires along railroad tracks running parallel to Hwy. 82 and Hwy. 301 Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters started battling a small fire at Blue Jay Road in Hoboken spanning east to Nahunta. Fires began breaking out in Nahunta running north to Trudie Road.

The culprit was reportedly a CSX train with sparks being spewed by a faulty trailer wheel system.

Firefighters witnessed railroad cross ties smoldering along the route as they tried to contain the small brush fires with water.

It was reported all the fires were contained at approximately 7 p.m.

CSX personnel and Nahunta Fire and Rescue personnel are continuing to monitor the tracks.

Warning advisories for motorists were issued for visibility for smoke near Sears Road, Ellis Highsmith Road and the Brantley County High/Middle School area due to the smoldering of railroad ties.
