Commission adopts ‘Reba Crews Proclamation’

Brantley County commissioners remembered Reba Highsmith Crews with the adoption of the “Reba Crews Proclamation” during its January 8 monthly meeting.

Mrs. Crews passed away October 19, 2025 at her residence, surrounded by her family. The Nahunta native worked in the Brantley County Tax Commissioner’s Office for 55-plus years.

Mrs. Crews was a faithful member of Nahunta Church of God. She loved her grandkids and listening to gospel music. Mrs. Crews lived her life with a servant’s heart — faithful, humble, always putting others before herself. Her warm smile and gentle spirit touched everyone she met.

The proclamation reads: “Whereas Reba Highsmith Crews lived a life defined by compassion, generosity, integrity and unwavering devotion to her family, friends, and community and most importantly to her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, “AND whereas Mrs. Crews dedicated at least 50 years of service to Brantley County Tax Commissioner's Office and to the citizens of Brantley County, “AND whereas Mrs. Crews served four separate tax commissioners: C.L. King, Lorena Strickland, Lorna Thomas and current Tax Commissioner Pat Thompkins faithfully, “AND whereas through her steadfast character and commitment to uplifting others became a source of strength, encouragement and inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her, “AND whereas her contributions both seen and unseen helped shape the lives around her with kindness, wisdom and a gentle spirit that remained constant throughout her journey, “AND whereas her legacy will continue to shine through the countless acts of love she extended, the values she instilled and the memories she leaves behind, “AND now, therefore, be it proclaimed that we honor and celebrate the life of Reba Highsmith Crews, recognizing her lasting impact and expressing her profound gratitude for the light she brought into the world.

“Be it further proclaimed that her memory will endure in the hearts of those she touched and that her example of strength, grace and compassion shall continue to guide and inspire future generations.

“Be it further proclaimed that October 19th will be declared Reba Highsmith Crews Day in Brantley County, Georgia.

“Let this proclamation stand as a testament to the life beautifully lived and a legacy cherished forever.”
