10th-ranked Lady Herons win streak at six; Herons win two of three

BCHS records first region sweep beating Berrien

CANEY BAY — Homestanding Brantley County handed visiting Berrien a seventh consecutive doubleheader setback in Region 1-A action here Tuesday night.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s 10th-ranked Lady Herons (12-3 overall, 3-2 region) posted a fourth consecutive win rolling to a 56-15 laugher over the Lady Rebels (4-12, 0-5) in the opener.

The Herons (6-9, 2-3) ended a three-game losing streak in the nightcap handing the Rebels (5-11, 0-5) a 44-31 setback. The loss was the ninth in 10 games for Berrien.

No. 10 Lady Herons .....................................56 Berrien ........................................................15 BCHS raised its point total in each quarter while padding its lead in the win over the Lady Rebels.

Eleven players reached the scoring column for the Lady Herons. Abbie Lee (two steals, assist) led the way recording a double-double of 15 points and a careerhigh 17 rebounds. Julie Carter (team-high four steals, three rebounds, two assists) added 13 points.

Chloe Johns (three rebounds, steal, assist) bagged five points. Rachel Kennedy (two rebounds), Kirsten Smith (three rebounds, assist), Sarah Grace Tompkins (three assists) and Edie Lowther (steal) each contributed four points.

Brodie Allen (two steals), Tamiyah Coley (two assists, steal) and Ella Highsmith (six rebounds, assist) chipped two points apiece. Anniston Bowers (team-leading four assists, rebound, steal) canned a free throw.

Brantley County raced out to an 11-2 advantage by the end of the opening eight minutes. The Lady Herons doubled up Berrien 12-6 in the second stanza to take a 23-8 halftime lead.

BCHS continued to widen its margin in the third period outscoring the Lady Rebels 15-3 for a commanding 38-11 advantage. The Lady Herons finished the game with an 18-4 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.

Berrien was led by the seven points of Aliyah Gray.

Herons .........................................................44 Berrien .........................................................31 Tallon Collins and Jaden Byron each reached doublefigures combining for 22 points to lead Brantley County past the Rebels.

Collins (trey; team-high three steals, three rebounds, two assists) led the way with a game-high 12 points. Byron (two treys; six rebounds, team-leading three assists, steal) scored 10 points.

The Herons outscored Berrien in three of the four quarters starting with a 15-7 scoring advantage in the first period. BCHS added a point to its margin in the second quarter garnering an 11-10 advantage for a 26-17 halftime margin.

The third quarter was a struggle for both teams with Berrien doubling up the Herons 6-3 to get to within 2923. Brantley County closed the game outscoring the visitors 15-8.

Cole Courson (five rebounds, assist steal) followed the lead of Collins and Byron with seven points. Jayden Simmons (six rebounds, two assists, steal) netted six points.

Tristen Dyess (team-high seven rebounds, two assists) contributed four points. Nathan Howell (trey; two rebounds) and Holton DePratter (two rebounds) netted three points and two points respectively.

The Rebels were led by the 11 points of Tae Lyas.
