Rebuilding Together taking applications Rebuilding Together Waycross is now accepting homeowner applications.

Applications for the home repair assistance program are available at Southeastern Credit Union, Waycross City Hall, Central Baptist Church. Prime South Bank (Waycross), McKinney Community Center, DFCS and Renasant Bank.

Applications may be completed online by visiting rebuildingtogetherwaycross. weebly.com/app lications They also can be completed and mailed to Rebuilding Together Waycross in care of Action Pact, 510 Tebeau Street, 31501, attn: Meniece Parker. Deadline for applications is Saturday, January 31.

Free tax prep starts Jan. 31

Waycross will once again offer the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, providing free basic tax return preparation to eligible residents beginning Saturday, January 31.

The program, in its 24th year, serves individuals and families who generally earn $67,000 or less, persons with disabilities, and taxpayers with limited English proficiency. Services are provided by IRScertified volunteers, ensuring accurate returns, required quality reviews, and assistance in claiming valuable credits such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Care Tax Credit.

The Waycross VITA site is at the Ware County Board of Elections and Registration Office, 408 Tebeau Street. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday through the tax season.

SGRC has hearing, meeting Jan. 22 The Southern Georgia Regional Commission will hold a public hearing and a meeting Thursday, January 22, at the SGRC office in Valdosta, 1937 Carlton Adams Drive.

The hearing on annual implementation of the regional plan Annual Implementation will be at 11 a.m. followed by a meeting of the SGRC Council. Both sessions are open to the public. For more details, visit www.sgrc.us.

OHC book festival has vendor spots The Okefenokee Heritage Center’s We Love Literacy Book Festival still has a few vendor spots available.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, February 7, at OHC, 1460 N. Augusta Ave. There is no vendor fee.

Youth council sets black history event The Mayor’s Youth Council of Waycross presents “The Next Chapter,” noon-3:30 p.m., Saturday, February 14 at C.C. Mc-Cray City Auditorium, 865 Pendleton Street.

The program led by the council’s Mayor Pro Tem Paula Gomez and other council members will honor black history. The event will center on local voices, and uplifting the next generation through story telling, music and reflection.

Admission is $5 for adults. Those 17-under and 60-plus are free

MSH has classes for child birth Memorial Satilla Health has scheduled bi-monthly maternity classes and monthly tours of its Birthing Center.

Tours and classes are held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the MSH Birthing Center Conference Room, 1900 Tebeau Street. Those interested can register at memorialsatillahealth.co m/calendar.

Classes are March 23, May 18, July 20, September 21 and November 16. Birthing Center Tours are February 8, March 6, April 7, May 6, June 11, July 10, August 9, September 6, October 12, November 10 and December 11.

Class topics will include breastfeeding, Cesarean sections (C-sections), diet and exercise, preparing for labor and delivery, relaxation techniques and vaginal deliveries.
