Lady Gators explode in 2nd half; No. 8 Gators steamroll Jackets

Ware County’s Bre Hill and Kevin Ramsey put together career- high scoring nights lead the Lady Gators and Gators to a Region 1-AAAA home sweep of visiting Wayne County Tuesday.

The Lady Gators’ (6-9 overall, 2-0 region) 47-26 victory January 13 over the Lady Yellow Jackets (9-7, 0-2), losers of two straight, was their second in three outings.

Wayne County’s 26 points was their second-lowest point total of the year. The Yellow Jackets beat Long County 25-20 before Christmas.

The Gators (14-2, 3-0), ranked eighth by MaxPreps and off to the programs best-ever start, belted the 20th-ranked Yellow Jackets (12-5, 3-1) 68-33 posting a fifth consecutive victory and fourth straight by 27+ points. It marked the 10th game Ware County has won by 22 or more points this season.

The Yellow Jackets’ 33 points marked a season-low point total eclipsing the 34 points a game earlier in a two-point home win over Benedictine.

Lady Gators ...........47 Wayne Co. .............26 Hill scored 22 of her career-high 23 points in the second half rallying the Lady Gators from a fivepoint halftime deficit.

The game was a tale of two halves for Ware County. The Lady Gators made one basket in the first 16 minutes before finding an offensive rhythm over the final two quarters sparked by Hill.

The Lady Yellow Jackets doubled up Ware County 6-3 in the opening stanza. They used a 6-4 second quarter scoring advantage to take a 12-7 halftime lead. Ware County managed just one basket during the first half.

The Lady Gators outscored Wayne County 15-9 in the third quarter taking the lead for good at 22-21 on a basket by Hill just before the buzzer. The basket sparked a 27-5 run to close the game including Ware County outscoring the visitors 25-5 over the final eight minutes and Hill powering her way inside to 12 points in the final period. Lydia Munford (two treys) was the only other Lady Gator to reach double- figures finishing with 10 points. Nevaeh Norton netted five points.

A’Treasure White and Bailey Denton (trey) each bagged three points. Madisyn Daniels and Lauren Belle contributed two points and one point respectively.

Wayne County was led by the eight points of Jakeliah Fullmore and six points by Ametrius Everett.

Gators ...................68 Wayne Co...............33 Ware County scored the first 10 points of the game and was never headed in knocking the Yellow Jack-ets in a battle of unbeaten region foes.

Ramsey scored 12 of his game-high 18 points after intermission. Masiyer McKoy followed with 16 points.

After watching Wayne County slice a 10-point deficit to 10-5, the Gators scored the final three points of the first period to lead 13-5. The Gators’ margin swelled to 24-9 in the second quarter during a 17-13 scoring advantage leading to a 30-18 halftime lead.

Ware County outscored the Yellow Jackets 17-10 during the third stanza extending the margin to 4728. The Gators dominated the final eight minutes outpointing Wayne County 21-5.

Davion Jones and Isaiah White (two treys) were next in the Ware County scoring column with eight points apiece. Ja’Londi O’Hara netted seven points.

Eugene Woods and Elan Jones bagged four points and three points respectively. Alex Cooper and Dallas Vinson each chipped in two points.
