Hoboken highlights

The City of Hoboken discussed/voted on the following agenda items during the January 6 monthly meeting.

• Approval of January agenda: The council approved the agenda for the December regular council meeting.

• Swearing in of City Officials: All City officials raised their right hand and swore to “faithfully discharge all duties devolving upon (them) as mayor and city council of the city of Hoboken, Georgia.”

• Approval of December minutes: Council members approved the minutes of the previous regular council meeting held in December.

• Road Closure: The council tabled the decision to close Dogwood/Coweta Road until the February meeting.

Mayor Joey Crews noted they are still waiting to hear from a concerned citizen who is “working on a paperwork issue” before the council proceeds with the road closure.

• Re-appointing City Attorney and City Judge: re-appointed City Attorney and Bradley Collins was reappointed City Judge for 2026.

• Appointment of new Mayor Pro-tem for 2026: An anonymous vote between council members resulted in appointing Councilman James Ray as Hoboken’s Mayor Pro-tem for 2026.

A motion carried for Ray to be put on the city’s bank accounts to carry out his official duties.

• Amendment to 2025 Budget: No amendments were made to Hoboken’s 2025 budget, as the city remained 25 percent under budget.

Mayor Crews said the county is still owed tax money from 2025, as well. Despite this achievement, council members agree spending levels could be improved upon in 2026.

• Hoboken Police Department: Chief Sammy Hendrix reported the Hoboken Police Department answered 42 calls for service, conducted 73 traffic stops, issued 27 citations and gave 46 verbal warnings in the month of December.

• Hoboken Fire Department: The Hoboken Fire Department reported 26 calls in the month of December, four of which were accidental injuries, three lift assists, three medical calls, 14 brush fires and two structure fires.

• Executive Session: Council Members went into an executive session at 7:43 p.m. to discuss a personnel matter.

At the end of the session, the council made a motion to terminate City Attorney Bryson Stone.
