Brantley County splits with Clinch, Thomasville and Jeff Davis
CANEY BAY — Brantley County split a non-region twinbill here with visiting Clinch County Monday night.
The matchup, originally scheduled for Tuesday, December 9, was postponed.
The Lady Herons (9-3) ended a two-game losing streak held off the Class A DII ninth-ranked Lady Panthers (52), losers of two straight, 40-34. BCHS won the lone meeting last season escaping with a 35-32 win in Homerville.
Clinch County’s unbeaten Panthers (8-0) notched a 5348 victory in the nightcap over the Herons (5-7), who fell for the second time in three outings. The Panthers recorded a 66-60 overtime win in last year’s matchup.

The Lady Herons pulled away from a two-point lead in the final eight minutes to turn back Clinch County.
Abbie Lee (two steals, two assists) led a balanced scoring attack while recording a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.
BCHS grabbed a 13-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Panthers outpointed Brantley County 14-6 in the second stanza to take a slim 20-19 halftime lead.
The Lady Herons outscored the visitors 9-6 during the third period to grab a 28-26 lead. BCHS outpointed the Lady Panthers 12-8 down the stretch.
Seven other Lady Herons entered the scoring column. Edie Lowther (two steals, rebound) canned eight points. Julie Carter (seven rebounds, team-high four assists, steal) and Grace Carver (four rebounds, steal) contributed six points apiece.
Anniston Bowers (team-high five steals, two assists, rebound) netted three points. Chloe Johns (two rebounds, two assists, steal) bagged two points. Kirsten Smith (six rebounds, three assists, steal) and Sarah Grace Tompkins (two rebounds) netted a free throw each.

Clinch County overcame a four-point halftime deficit outscoring the Herons 2718 over the final two periods for the victory.
BCHS buried three long-ranger jumpers in the first period helping the Herons to a 14-10 lead. The two team matched point totals in the second stanza with each scoring 16 with Brantley County taking a 30-26 lead at intermission.
The Panthers chipped three points off the deficit during the third quarter outscoring BCHS 12-9 to get to within 39-38. Clinch County outpointed the Herons 15-9 over the final eight minutes.
Jayden Simmons (trey; four rebounds) was the lone Brantley County player to reach double figures leading seven players in the scoring column with 13 points. Hayze Evans (two treys; two steals, assist) and Jayden Byron (one trey; team-high 10 rebounds, three assists) netted eight points and seven points respectively.
Cole Courson (six rebounds, assist, steal) and Holton Depratter (two rebounds) each scored six points. Nathan Howell (trey; rebound, assist, steal) finished with five points with Tristan Dyess (trey; three rebounds, assist, steal) netting three points.
Clinch County had four players in double figures led by Travian Miller’s game-high 15 points. Jakyri Posley finished with 12 points with Kamarion Johnson and Kyiis Mingo bagging 11 points and 10 points respectively.
