Lady Bears grapplers win Area 3 title; Bears fall short of state bid

DII prelims next for PCHS

BEARVILLE — Pierce County’s Lady Bears’ wrestling program captured the Area 3 Team Duals title Friday afternoon in the three-team meet.

The Lady Bears defeated Peach County 54-30 and Baldwin 54-30 for the program’s first-ever title.

Pierce County advances to the Division II Girls’ State Dual prelim meet Thursday, January 15 to secure an “Elite 8” bid to the Saturday, January 24 state tournament in Lumpkin County.

PCHS’s 13 grapplers wrestled in weight classes from 100 pounds to 235 lbs.

Ella Davis (100 lbs.) won both of her matches via forfeit. Robi Milsom (105) won by pin (12 seconds) and forfeit. Jayden Altman (110) recorded a pin (1:10) and won by forfeit.

Alyssa Vail (115) lost by pin (19 seconds) and won via forfeit. Holly Gibbs (115) lost by pin (41 sec.) and won by pin (28 sec.). Josie Insalaco won by pin (17 sec.) and forfeit.

Megan Stanley (130) won by forfeit and lost by pin (31 sec.). Elizabeth Insalaco posted two pin wins (20 sec., 2:19). Joselyn Barrera won by forfeit and via pin (3:43).

Isabella Harvey (155) lost twice via pins (4:44, 1:11). Valarie Barrera (170) won by forfeit. Zinique Hightower (170) lost by pin (1:07) and won by pin (3:07). Jessie Reed (235) won by forfeit.
