WAYCROSS — Mrs. Alexis Sweat Minix, 86, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2026, at her residence in the Jamestown Community of Waycross.
She was born March 9, 1939, in Waycross to the late Alex J. Sweat and Eug enia Mullis Sweat. Mrs. Minix was a 1957 graduate of Waycross High School, where she was an outstanding athlete. She was runnerup in the 1956 State Tennis Championship and went on to win the State Tennis Doubles Championship in 1957 with her partner, Despo Mescure. She also played on the school’s basketball team, scoring nearly half of the team’s total points during her senior year.
On December 28, 1958, she married Donald C. Minix, and together they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on December 28, 2025. Mrs. Minix was employed with First National Bank until the birth of her first grandchild in 1982. She then devoted her life to caring for her grandchildren and great grandchildren until recent months.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Donald C. Minix, Sr.; one daughter, Debbie Taylor (husband Allen); two sons, Donnie Minix and David Minix; six grandchildren, Robbie Dixon (Jennifer), Melissa Reyes (Christian), Trey Minix, Christie Liles (Brett), Bryce Taylor, and Chance Minix; as well as numerous great grandchildren and other relatives.
The family would like to extend its deepest and most heartfelt appreciation to Hospice Satilla and its staff for their compassionate care during this time, especially nurse Amy Tyre, who was available day and night and helped make Mrs. Minix’s transition as comfortable as possible.

In accordance with Mrs. Minix’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service. She will be cremated, and the family will hold a private gathering in her remembrance at a later date.
