The Mayor’s Youth Council of Waycross presents “The Next Chapter,” from noon to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, February 14 at C.C. McCray City Auditorium, 865 Pendleton Street.
The program led by the council’s Mayor Pro Tem Paula Gomez and other council members will honor black history. The event will center on local voices, and uplifting the next generation through story telling, music and reflection.
Admission is $5 for adults. Those 17-under and 60-plus are free.
The Mayor’s Youth Council was the brainchild of Waycross Mayor Michael-Angelo James, and created with Waycross City Commission approval of a resolution two years ago.
The group is composed of high school students and mirrors the makeup of the commission with a representative for each district in addition to the Office of Mayor and City Clerk. The program was created to expose youth to the workings of city government with a goal of fostering the next generation of leadership in city government and beyond.
