SGRC has hearing, meeting Jan. 22 The Southern Georgia Regional Commission will hold a public hearing and a meeting Thursday, January 22, at the SGRC office in Valdosta, 1937 Carlton Adams Drive.

The hearing on annual implementation of the regional plan Annual Implementation will be at 11 a.m. followed by a meeting of the SGRC Council.

Both sessions are open to the public.

Satilla Riverkeeper sets benefit gala The Satilla Riverkeeper will hold a Spring Gala at 5 p.m., Saturday, March 28, at the Blueberry Hill Event Venue, 385 Lynn Holly Lane, Hoboken.

The evening will include dinner, music, an open bar, and both a live auction and a silent auction. Tickets are $150 per person.

All proceeds will upport the Satilla Riverkeeper’s mission to protect the Satilla River.

MSH has classes for child birth Memorial Satilla Health has scheduled bi-monthly maternity classes and monthly tours of its Birthing Center.

Tours and classes are held from 5 to 7 p.m. in the MSH Birthing Center Conference Room, 1900 Tebeau Street.

Classes will be held beginning Monday, January 19 followed by others March 23, May 18, July 20, September 21 and November 16.

Birthing Center Tours remaining are February 8, March 6, April 7, May 6, June 11, July 10, August 9, September 6, October 12, November 10 and December 11.

Class topics will include breastfeeding, Cesarean sections (C-sections), diet and exercise, preparing for labor and delivery, relaxation techniques and vaginal deliveries.

OHC writer’s group meets January 20 The Okefenokee Heritage Center’s OHC Writers group meets monthly from 4 to 6 p.m the third Tuesday of the month at 1460 N. Augusta Avenue.

The Next meeting is January 20.

Writers of all experience levels and genres are welcome.

Diabetes group meets first Sat.

The Talki Foundation’s monthly support group 912 Diabetes Initiative for people with diabetes and their caregivers holds meetings the first Saturday of each month.

The support group will meet at 11 a.m., in the Memorial Satilla Health Annex Classroom, 1800 Alice Street.

Remaining dates for the first half of the year are February 7, March 7, April 4, May 2 and June 6.

The group provides educational resources and a chance to connect with others.

Unison directors meet January 29 The Unison Behavioral Health Board of Directors meets at noon, Thursday, January 29 in the Ware C&A Training Room, 1003 Mary Street.

Chamber seeks hosts for events The Waycross-Ware County Chamber of Commerce is compiling its list of hosts for its Rise ‘n’ Shine and Business After Hours meetings for 2026.

Rise ‘n’ Shine is held at 7:45 a.m. and Business After Hours at 5 p.m., each once every month.
