Darden
WAYCROSS — Genelda Jones Field Darden, age 76, of Waycross passed away Monday, December 22, 2025, at her residence after an extended illness.
She was born December 14, 1949, in Bacon County to Charlie Jones and Hertha Tyre Jones.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Charles Jones and Johnny “Bud” Jones; nephew, Mike Jones; and great nephew, Chad Nipper.
Survivors include three daughters, Anna Field Kelley, Jennifer Melissa Woodcock, and Margaret Field (Travis) all of Waycross; five grandchildren, Jacob and Meghan Kelley, Sarah Kane (Brian), Dylan Kelley (Abbigail), and Silas Kemp; and two great grandchildren, Saylor St. Thomas and Kelley Grace St. Thomas.
Inspired by her brother, Ms. Darden obtained a Master’s Degree in special education and went even further to obtain a postgraduate degree as an education specialist. Her desire to learn didn’t stop there as she studied law at Florida State University before deciding to devote her time to teaching, as well as an unconditionally loving mother and later grandmother.
She was highly involved with the Waycross Area Community Theater for a number of years, as well as Trembling Earth Productions, performing on stage and behind the scenes. As a true animal lover, she donated her time in retirement to fostering and contributing to animal rescues locally and afar. Her selflessness will always be appreciated and never forgotten by those who were blessed to know and love her. She will be greatly missed.
Ms. Darden’s life will be celebrated by family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local animal rescue.
