Wilson
WAYCROSS — Willis Harold Wilson, Sr., passed away peacefully at his home on December 28, 2025, following a long illness. He was 89 years old.
Wilson was the founder of Wilson Insurance, which he established from the ground up in 1956. A dedicated and hardworking man, he continued working every day until the age of 84. He was deeply active in his church and the Exchange Club, where he proudly served as President.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife Peggy Jordan Wilson; his mother, Nellie Wilson; and his father, A.W. Wilson.
He is survived by his three sons, Hal Wilson, Jr. and his wife, Cathy, Michael Wilson and his wife, Christiane, and Bill Wilson; granddaughter Amelia Simmons, and her husband, Brandon; grandsons, Will Wilson and his wife, Mary Cole, and Henry Wilson and his wife, Carli; great grandsons, Wilson and Luke.
Wilson and his wife shared a strong and unwavering faith. Whenever the church doors were open, the family was present. He dearly loved his three sons, all of whom participated in sports while growing up. From peewee and midget football to baseball, high school football, and tennis, he was faithfully present at every game, match, and practice. His children never lacked love, attention, or support, and he extended that same devotion to his grandchildren.
An avid sportsman himself, Wilson particularly enjoyed tennis. For many years, he played weekly doubles matches with close friends. It was said they would call the lines by sound alone. And of course, he was a devoted fan of the University of Georgia Bulldogs.
The family finds comfort in knowing that he is now in a better place, free from pain and suffering. They are certain that his beloved wife welcomed him at the Pearly Gates, and that his tennis buddies were not far behind, ready to set up another match.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 10 at Oakland Cemetery, with visitation immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, 31501.
He will be missed, but never forgotten.
