City of Nahunta, City of Homeland PDs conduct operation
NAHUNTA — Law enforcement officials in Nahunta and Homeland announced the successful conclusion of Operation Quicksand, a targeted public safety initiative conducted from October 1 through December 31, 2025, focused on improving roadway safety and removing impaired and drug-involved drivers from local roadways.
During the three-month operation, officers conducted 743 proactive traffic stops, resulting in 32 arrests for offenses including drug possession, impaired driving, probation and parole violations, and firearms violations.
The operation emphasized high-visibility patrols, proactive traffic enforcement, search warrants and coordinated investigations designed to reduce dangerous behavior and prevent serious injury or loss of life.
In addition to enforcement, Operation Quicksand placed a strong emphasis on community engagement and prevention.
Officers assigned to the Crime Suppression & Intelligence Unit (CSIU), alongside K-9 Quick, participated October 10, 2025 in a community meet-and-greet at Nahunta Elementary School, engaging with more than 400 students and staff.

Operation
Operation Quicksand also resulted in significant investigative outcomes, including the execution of search warrants, felony indictments and the securing of multiple arrest warrants.
Nahunta Mayor Marty Lee praised the professionalism demonstrated throughout the operation, stating officers worked together across assignments to protect the community while also taking time to engage with young people.
Homeland Mayor L.C. Guinn emphasized the teamwork displayed between specialized units and patrol officers, noting CSIU and patrol officers operated as one team with one mission — keeping the community safe.
Nahunta City Manager Tom Wirth highlighted the disciplined and coordinated approach to pubsion lic safety reflected throughout the operation in which our community expects.
City of Homeland Mayor Pro Tem and Committee Chairman commended the proactive nature of the effort and the officers’ commitment to roadway safety and public trust.
Nahunta and Homeland Police Chief Brad Todd advised both to continue their efforts to rid the respective communities of illegal drugs that could bring harm to our citizens.
Law enforcement leaders also recognized the Waycross Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, led by District Attorney Marilyn Bennett, along with Assistant District Attorneys Rocky Bridges and Taylor Herrin, noting the District Attorney’s Office is always there to assist with questions and answers.
The 911 directors of both Charlton and Brantley County, along with their dispatchers’ efforts, cannot go unnoticed. They are the lifeline and assist law enforcement in getting the information needed to affect the arrest.
