ATKINSON Community — Four suspicious fires in undeveloped lots off Hwy. 259 in Satilla Plantation were contained by Brantley County’s Georgia Forestry unit.

Georgia Forestry was dispatched to the area Tuesday, December 30 at 1:50 p.m. Two bulldozers cut fire breaks at four different locations said a Georgia Forestry spokesperson. They were onscene until 6:30 p.m.

According to the spokesperson, there were four small fires in areas measuring fourtenths of an acre, one acre, 1.4 acres and 2.4 acres.

Brantley County Sheriff Len Davis, who was at the site a week earlier, said Monday, January 5 the fires were suspicious and are being investigated.

The property is approximately 864 acres of dry land and 124 acres of wetland. There are approximately 225 private owners with lots ranging ½ acre to just over an acre.
