CANEY BAY — Brantley County closed out its 2025 schedule with a sweep of visiting Appling County.
The Lady Herons (8-1) avenged its lone loss ending the Lady Pirates’ (5-5) two-game winning streak 43-41 Tuesday, December 30. BCHS, winners of five straight, fell 44-39 December 2 in Baxley to the Lady Pirates.
The Herons (4-5) won their second straight game and third in four tries rolling to a 69-53 victory over Appling County (2-9) in the nightcap extending the Pirates’ losing streak to six games. The win gave BCHS a split in the season series after falling 57-56 back in Baxley.

The Lady Herons withstood a furious comeback bid by Appling County holding on for the narrow victory.
The Lady Pirates jumped out to a 13-9 first quarter advantage. BCHS responded doubling up the visitors 12-6 in the second period to take a slim 21-19 halftime lead.
The Lady Herons were able to widen the margin outscoring Appling County 10-6 in the third stanza to take a 31-25 lead into the final period. The Lady Pirates made things interesting outscoring Brantley County 16-12 over the last eight minutes.
BCHS’s Kirsten Smith was the lone Lady Heron to reach double figures scoring a game-high 12 points and pulling down a team-high nine rebounds. She was credited with an assist.
Abbie Lee (three rebounds, two steals, assist) and Tamiyah Cole (five rebounds, two assists, two steals) contributed nine points apiece.
Julie Carter (seven rebounds, two steals) bagged six points. Chloe Johns (team-high three assists) netted four points. Anniston Bowers (six rebounds) added a free throw.

Brantley County outscored the Pirates 4630 over the middle two periods turning an eightpoint first quarter deficit into an eight-point advantage with eight minutes to play.
Appling County capitalized on the Herons’ struggles from the floor in the first period building a 14-6 lead. BCHS returned the favor in the second stanza limiting the Pirates to just one basket in a 24-8 blitz to take a 30-22 halftime lead. Each team scored 22 points during the third quarter with Brantley County holding a 52-44 lead into the final period. The Herons widened the margin over the fourth canto outscoring Appling County 17-9.
BCHS had three players reach double figures led by the career-high 21 points of Cole Courson. Jayden Bryan and Jayden Simmons followed with 13 and 12 points respectively.
Tallon Collins was next with eight points. Zary Harris netted six points ith Nathan Howell contributing four points. Holton Depratter bagged three points with Tristan Dyess adding two points.
Appling County’s Aldarrius Howell netted 21 of his game-high 27 points over the final two periods.
