The Okefenokee Alliance for the Homeless (OATH) was among the recipients of 12,000 pairs of socks given on behalf of cotton farmers this Christmas season.
The donation was made by the Georgia Cotton Commission on behalf of Georgia’s 3,500 cotton farming families.
Farmers delivered socks to OATH and to shelters in Albany, Cordele, Valdosta, Lafayette, Athens, Demorest, Macon, Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus and Savannah.
Georgia Cotton Commission Chairman Bart Davis, a cotton farmer from Colquitt County, said, “We hope that the sock donations will bring a smile to people’s faces across the state and give them extra warmth for the winter months. Farmers understand the difficulty of hard times, and it’s important to help those going through struggles feel supported.”
The Georgia Cotton Commission is a producerfunded organization located in Perry, Georgia. The commission began in 1965.
